I’m interested in storytelling. I’ve been enraptured by a good story since I was barely two, drawn in by characters and worlds separate from ours. Now, I appreciate a story that gives me a different look on this world, on the character I play in my daily life. With this project, I aim to study a variety of books written by authors who want to share their views on life that have been shaped by their unique perspectives: gender, race, religion, disability, etc. I will conduct a literature study consisting of reflection, evaluation, and comparison of these books for the first semester of my Distinction Project, taking place in Fall 2016. In Spring 2017, I will start compiling my own book. With this work, I want to express how my life and my study of stories culminate in a unique perspective on myself, the world, and communication. The act of publishing a book will be my capstone, the final product of a study of storytelling and communication, of struggle and success, of perspective and humanity.
